OXFORD United are closing in on the signing of Portsmouth striker Ellis Harrison, according to reports.

Fleetwood Town were also in the hunt for the 27-year-old, however Neil Allen, of The News in Portsmouth, says the U’s are now in pole position to complete the signing of Harrison.

Harrison has yet to feature under head coach Danny Cowley, having been out with knee ligament damage before Cowley’s arrival in March.

He joined Pompey in a £425,000 deal from Ipswich Town in June 2019, and has scored 16 goals in 70 appearances.

Harrison formed a prolific partnership with United striker Matty Taylor at his first club Bristol Rovers, helping The Gas climb from the Vanarama National League to Sky Bet League One between 2014 and 2016.

The U’s signed Ryan Williams from Portsmouth last week.
