ONE Covid-19 death has been announced in Oxfordshire as cases in the UK fell to lowest daily level for a month.

According to the Government's website, as of 4pm on Monday there were 153 new cases in Oxfordshire.

These were the numbers in 24 hours by local authority:

Oxford - 50

South Oxfordshire - 26

West Oxfordshire - 15

Vale of White Horse - 18

Cherwell - 44

Oxfordshire recorded one death, which took place in Cherwell.

The total coronavirus cases since the pandemic started:

Oxford - 7,948

Oxfordshire - 28,396

Public Health England confirmed that the UK has recorded a further 592 Covid-related deaths in the latest reporting period, along with another 22,195 new cases.

The Government figures include confirmed cases only as some people who have the virus are not tested.

This brings the total number of people who have died from Covid-19 to 98,531.

NHS England data shows that in the South East 910,450 people have received first doses of a Covid-19 vaccine and 76,383 their second doses, making 986,833 in total.

This comes as a large-scale vaccination centre opened in the Kassam Stadium in Oxford yesterday, which forms part of a network of almost 50 mass hubs across the country.

The R number, which estimates the growth rate of the pandemic, currently sits at between 0.8 and 1.
