TRIBUTES have poured in to celebrate the life of comedy legend Bobby Ball.

The British entertainment icon died at the age of 76 after testing positive for Covid-19.

Bobby performed at the Wyvern Theatre with lifelong double-act partner Tommy Cannon in November 2014 in Robin Hood parody Ha Ha Hood.

Before that, the hilarious duo came to the Swindon venue for two nights in April 1987.

Theatre manager Laura James said: “I am deeply saddened to hear that Bobby Ball has passed away. He was a true entertainer, and we have fond memories at the Wyvern of his appearance in Ha Ha Hood.

“Our thoughts and condolences go out to Tommy Cannon and to Bobby’s family at this difficult time.”

Adver readers paid their respects after learning the sad news. Sandy Hunt said: “One of life’s legends and a true gentleman. I met him several times. Condolences to his family and partner in comedy Tommy.”

Theresa Smith added: “So sad. I used to love him growing up. Thinking of his family and comedy partner Tommy.”

June Gribble said: “Really sad, a funny man. Thoughts to his family.”

Karl Willis said: “RIP to one of the greats.”

His close friend Tommy Cannon said: “Rock on, my good friend. I can’t believe this, I’m devastated.”

Ball’s wife Yvonne said: “I will always miss him, he was so joyful, full of fun and mischievous.”

Manager Phil Dale added: “Bobby was a true comedy star who loved entertaining people and he loved life itself. I spoke to him every day and it would always end in laughter.”

A statement issued on Thursday morning from his management read: “It is with great personal sadness that I announce that Bobby Ball passed away at Blackpool Victoria Hospital on October 28 at approximately 9.30pm

“Bobby had been taken to the hospital for tests as he started with breathing problems. At first it was thought to be a chest infection but a test proved positive for Covid-19.

“His wife Yvonne said the hospital and staff could not have been more wonderful, as they were outstanding in their care of duty and they did everything possible for him and she cannot praise them enough.

“The family and Tommy would like to express their sincere thanks to the many people who have been fans of Bobby. They know that they will all share in part the great loss and total sadness that Yvonne, the family and Tommy all feel
