KEBAB lovers are fighting to stop their local van being booted off a spot where it has been based for more than 13 years.

Hundreds of fast food fans have signed a petition against the eviction of Erdun Kebab from the car park on Limborough Road in Wantage.

Vale of White Horse District Council said it was considering taking action because the business did not have official and up-to-date 'street trading consent'.

Local David Page, who started the Change.org petition that already has more than 1000 signatures commented: "He has been part of the Wantage community for more than 25 years.

"People come far and wide to enjoy his excellent customer interaction as well as his food – Wantage will not be the same without him."

Erdun Kebab's food is so popular amongst residents in Wantage that in 2011 many of them rallied to get him an MBE for his 'services to the kebab industry'.

While a number of people slammed the council for giving notice to the van especially during the pandemic, a Vale spokesperson revealed that the business does not have a 'street trading consent'.

They added: "The council is not requiring Erdun Kebab to stop trading.

"Our officers recently visited the outlet for a second time as part of their normal work and reminded the proprietor that a street trading consent was not in place.

"They explained it is a legal requirement and gave the proprietor information on how he can apply for consent and informed him that formal action may be considered."
