Halloween is just around the corner and what better way to start your ghoulish celebrations than heading down to the pumpkin patch?

Picking your own pumpkin has been an autumnal tradition across the pond in America since the 1920s and during the baby boom, to greet neighbourhood children as they went trick or treating. 

With the coronavirus pandemic putting a halt to many celebrations this year, this is one tradition we can certainly all still take part in safely. 

Pumpkin picking seems to be really popular with Oxfordshire folk. So much so that most patches have run out of pumpkins.

But worry not, jump in the car and enjoy the view as you drive to these other nearby locations:

Millets farm is synonymous with families across the region as being the place to go for pumpkin picking and this year is no different.

There have been a few changes to ensure the safety of the public including following a one-way system, wearing a mask and strict social distancing guidelines.

Pre-booking is mandatory, you will be given a time slot for pumpkin picking and are advised to arrive as close to this time as possible. 

Pumpkins prices vary depending on sizes and start from £1 up to £5.

Wheelbarrows will be available for you to use to transport your pumpkins, all you need to bring are your wellies and a reusable bag to take your pumpkins home in.

Cotswold Farm Park, Guilting Power, GL54 5FL

Just under an hour's drive outside of Oxford city centre, the Cotswold Farm Park was opened in 1971 and is home to a whole host of animals and activities. 

If you're looking to get a cute family snaps then look no further as there is a photographer on-site that can be pre-booked for your pumpkin pictures.

Once you have finished picking your pumpkins why not head over to the indoor play centre?

The Adventure Barn is next to 'The Ox Shed' cafe which is open daily serving a range of hot and cold drinks and high-quality meals.

There is also a farm shop on-site as well as a wildlife walk and conservation area.

Roves Farm is a brilliant day out for all ages, especially over the October half term as they will be hosting a range of events and activities to run alongside their pumpkin patch. 

This includes meeting the animals, music time, animal racing and more. 

Fancy dress is optional but encouraged as there will be a winner for the best dressed each day.

Once you have picked your pumpkin you can take it home or carve it on site. 

Tickets must be booked in advance, general admission is £9.80 for children with a £4 add-on for pumpkin picking and carving kit.
