A WOMAN who bit a man's ear lobe off during a night of violence in Grove has pleaded guilty at court.

Sharnie Hutton appeared at Oxford Crown Court yesterday.

The 32-year-old of Howfinch Road, Kidderminster, admitted at that hearing to one count of unlawful wounding and another count of assault occasioning actual bodily harm.

She denies a more serious offence of causing grievous bodily harm with intent.

Ian Hope, on behalf of the Crown Prosecution Service, said the pleas were acceptable and that no trial would be sought on the single count that she denies.

At the hearing it was revealed that the violence took place on the night of April 7 last year.

While at an address in Grove, near Wantage, Hutton 'bit off' a man's ear lobe.

Mr Hope said: "The lower part of the left ear of the complainant was completely severed.

"The lobe in the left ear [was removed] in a bite."

He went on to say there had been a number of incidents involving Hutton and the victim and that the man did not want his attacker jailed for the incident.

Jon Swain, defending, said that his client admitted wounding on the basis of 'excessive force in self defence.'

He added that Hutton was 'devastated by what she did on that night' and said: "She regrets what happened."

Presiding Judge Michael Gledhill QC agreed to adjourn the case while a pre-sentence report is prepared by the National Probation Service.

He said that while adjourning the case for a further report he would make 'no promises as to sentence.'

Hutton was released on bail to await her sentencing hearing.

That hearing will take place at the same court on Wednesday November 18.
