ONE of Oxford's best-loved nightclubs promised students a 'great night out' – even as the city edges towards local lockdown measures.

The popular LGBTQ+ venue Plush urged Oxford University youth to return to the club for this year's Freshers Week parties.

While to many this may sound as a crowded and sweaty night out, the club on Frewin Court revealed that it currently operates on capacity reduced by 75 per cent to comply with Government guidelines.

Explaining how the student spot will look different to previous years a spokesperson commented: "Plush has already been open for a number of weeks, and currently operates as a fully-seated bar with table service only.

"We are following all current guidelines, operating with a fully-digital track and trace system, enhanced cleaning of tables and touch points after every use, and ensuring we do everything we can to keep our customers and staff safe.

"Next week we will be bringing back our famous Freshers party nights.

"The hours will, of course, be earlier and customers must be seated; however, the atmosphere and friendly service shall remain unchanged."

The venue is open from Monday to Saturday, from 5pm until 10pm, in line with Covid-19 curfew on the hospitality industry.

However, Plush did have its 'last hurrah' when it threw a 'first come, first serve' party on September 23 – the night before the strict restrictions came into place.

After advertising the 3am night on Facebook, the club was criticised by residents worried that this could only have a negative effect on the worsening Covid-19 crisis in Oxfordshire.

Customers were also encouraged to pre-book tables for next week as Freshers Week is busy and demand for spots has been high.
