A MAN accused of dealing drugs after officers found more than £1,000 of crack cocaine and heroin outside Bicester Village has gone on trial.

Prosecutors claim that when police arrived to carry out a search Karl Williams 'threw' a mobile phone, which was later found to contain drug dealing messages.

The 34-year-old of Woodbrooke Grove, Birmingham, denies two counts alleging possession with intent to supply class A drugs.

It is claimed that he had the dozens of wraps of crack cocaine and heroin which were destined for sale to others.

His trial at Oxford Crown Court got under way yesterday.

Outlining the case to the jury prosecutor Gabrielle McAvock said the drugs find took place at about 4pm on June 7 last year.

She said that Williams was spotted in a black Jaguar vehicle along with another man at Bicester Village's main public car park.

Williams was in the front passenger seat, the jury was told, sitting next to the unnamed male who was in the drivers seat.

On searching the car, she said, police found the drugs in the back of the vehicle.

The court heard that in total officers discovered a haul of drugs worth about £1,040 if sold on the street.

In all there was 4.98g of crack cocaine discovered, made up of 27 cling film wraps, and 4.75g of heroin, made up of 25 cigarette paper wraps.

The crack cocaine was valued at about £540 and the heroin some £500.

Prosecutors also said that police seized a 'relatively large quantity of cash', totalling £424.95.

That cash, the court heard, was found inside Williams's Gucci shoulder bag.

One of the police officers who was at the scene went to the witness box to detail what she saw of the incident.

Police Sergeant Kerry O'Leary described Williams as appearing 'nervous at our presence.'

She told jurors that she saw armed response officers take both the men out of the vehicle before they were to be searched.

She claimed that she saw Williams 'throw a mobile phone on to the ground.'

She went on to collect that mobile phone before seizing other items from the scene, including the Gucci bag and the cash.

Prosecutors said that the mobile phone that was recovered - a Sonica device - was analysed and that 'drug dealing text messages' were discovered on it.

It was also revealed that the Jaguar vehicle was a hire car and officers said they found documentation for that rental inside the glove compartment.

Jurors went on to hear that after Williams had been arrested he declined to answer any questions that were put to him by officers about the allegations.

He denies both of the two counts against him and the trial - which is expected to last three days - continues.
