A LOST toddler, who was found naked and muddy wandering the streets of Oxford, is now 'safe and well', police have confirmed.

Thames Valley Police received reports at around 1.50pm on Sunday that a barefoot child was seen wandering alone in Barns Road, Cowley.

When officers arrived at the scene the boy was in the care of midwife Natalie Madeleine, who had dressed him in her jumper and had put him in her car for safety.

Ms Madeleine, from Oxford, was driving from Blackbird Leys when she saw a big crowd gathered and stopped to check if there was a medical emergency.

When she saw the 'butt naked, barefoot' toddler, she dressed him in her jumper and put him in her car while police arrived.

Speaking abou the shocking incident, Ms Madeleine said: "I saw the poor little boy and instantly checked whether he was hurt.

"He did not seem physically hurt but had a lot of dirt on his face.

"He was completely naked and did not even have shoes on."

She asked him for his name and address but he did not reply.

The midwife added: "I do not even know if he knew English as he did not speak a word.

"He seemed very disorientated."

Ms Madeleine said police arrived within 10 to 15 minutes and put the toddler in their van.
