THE mobile phone app Uber Eats is now available to people in the Peterlee area.

The app went live in the area on Thursday, September 24 with McDonald’s, Castle Dene Shopping Centre, as the first restaurant to team up with Uber to allow customers to order online and have food delivered to their door.

Uber Eats said other local food outlets will also join the platform in coming weeks.

To use the service, which is available 8am to midnight every day, people need to download the Uber Eats app on their smartphone or visit ubereats.com

The delivery charge is currently £3.99.

Toussaint Wattinne, general manager of Uber Eats in the UK, said: “We are really excited to be launching in Peterlee firstly with McDonald’s, and a host of local restaurants joining in the coming weeks.

"We hope to make it even easier for local residents to enjoy a variety of delicious food both comfortably and safely.”

Uber Eats has said every courier can access the PPE they need as free sanitising products have been provided and more than a million masks provided.
