A third earthquake has been felt across the border in Bedfordshire, with the town of Leighton Buzzard hit by a 3.0-magnitude tremor.

According to the British Geological Survey (BGS), it took place at a depth of 10km at around 8.32am.

The town, which is 33 miles from Oxford, was previously hit at 11.20pm on September 13, measured by the BGS at magnitude 2.1.

It was thought to have been an aftershock from the magnitude 3.5 quake that was felt on September 8.

The BGS tweeted this morning: "Reports describe “only lasted a couple of seconds” & “just felt a single jolt, a bit like being in a car that has done an emergency stop!”."
