A MOTORIST who flipped his car has appeared in court after being charged with driving without due care and attention on the A590.

Benjamin James Walton was sentenced at South Cumbria Magistrates' Court to plead guilty to the offence, committed on November 1 2019.

The defendant also admitted damaging street furniture in the road and failing to stop while driving in his Nissan Primaster.

Magistrates were told that the 32-year-old was travelling too fast on the A590 during adverse weather conditions.

He then hit a patch of standing water and skidded into the central reservation before flipping his vehicle.

For the offences, Walton was banned from driving for eight months.

He was also handed a community order, requiring him to be at his home in Nethercroft, Levens, between 8pm and 6am for 12 weeks.

He was also told to pay a victim surcharge of £90 and £85 in prosecution costs for bringing the case to court.

Walton was represented in court by Michael Graham.
