CASES of coronavirus in Oxfordshire went up again today, with now more than 3,200 confirmed positive tests.

Oxford cases also overall rose to 895, with the infection rate per 100,000 people now at 577.9, compared with England average of 464.

The rate of infection in Oxfordshire now stands at 468.8, also slightly above average.

Across the UK another 763 lab-confirmed cases were recorded as of 9am.

The health body is now including Pillar 2 tests – those carried out by commercial partners – alongside Pillar 1 tests, which are analysed in NHS or PHE laboratories and which made up the first stage of the Government's mass testing programme.

A further 83 coronavirus-related deaths were reported, with 14 fatalities in England's hospitals.

None were in the South East and Oxfordshire's hospitals have not recorded a death from Covid-19 since June 30.

The current death toll at Oxford University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust, which runs the John Radcliffe, Churchill, Nuffield Orthopaedic Centre and Horton's General Hospital, is 181.

There have also been 23 deaths at Oxford Health NHS Foundation Trust, which is in charge of community hospitals in the county. As the trust also runs services in other counties, however, it is not possible to know how many took place in Oxfordshire.

Globally, there have now been more than 16m cases of coronavirus and 660,000 deaths, according to an online dashboard created by Johns Hopkins University.

The UK has the fourth highest mortality rate at approximately 46,000.
