ARMED men and women went into an Oxford park in the middle of the afternoon and fired a gun at people inside.  

On Tuesday at around 3.40pm, a group of four men and women went to Donnington Playing Fields, off Meadow Lane in Oxford.

At the fields, the group aimed an air rifle towards another group of men that were there.

The gun was then fired before the group made a getaway in a car. 

Police have arrested five people in connection with the incident:

  • A 25-year-old man from Bicester and a 20-year-old man, of no fixed abode, on suspicion of possessing a firearm with intent to cause fear or violence and possessing an imitation with intent to cause fear or violence – they have both been bailed until August 17.
  • A 22-year-old man from Chester, Flintshire, on suspicion of possession of a firearm with intent to cause fear or violence. He has been bailed until August 17.
  • A 32-year-old woman and 35-year-old man, of no fixed abode, on suspicion of possession of a firearm with intent to cause fear and violence. Both have been bailed until August 18.

Investigating officer, DC Rosie Campbell, of Oxford Police Station, said: “I am appealing for witnesses to this incident, as well as the group that the air rifle was fired towards to come forward and speak to us.

“We would like to reassure the public that this incident is being investigated, and arrests have been made in connection with it.

“No one was hurt during this incident.

“However, we still would appeal to anyone with information relating to to this incident to come forward.”
