THAMES Valley Police officers seized a sharp kitchen knife during a search in Garth Park in Bicester yesterday afternoon.

The force took to social media to warn residents of the consequences of carrying the dangerous weapon.

The post said: "If you are found carrying a knife rest assured you will be arrested.

"The penalty for carrying a bladed/sharply pointed instrument in a public place is up to four years imprisonment.

"If you use it you may receive a life sentence."

Officers from the Cherwell area appealed to locals to call 101 or 999 if they know anybody carrying a knife in a public space.
