A ‘DANGEROUS’ driver who fled police through quiet residential roads at 100mph has been spared jail.

Tyler Sharkey made a pedestrian jump out of the way as he led police on the chase through Blackbird Leys after he ‘panicked.’

The 23-year-old of Bayswater Road, Oxford appeared at Oxford Crown Court yesterday where he admitted dangerous driving and possession of cannabis.

Prosecutors said officers saw Sharkey driving at speed on Balfour Road in a Seat Leon at about 6pm on April 18.

When Sharkey saw the officer he ‘took off’ and led police on a chase around Blackbird Leys.

Police said Sharkey drove at up to 100mph at one stage and officers gave up the chase. During the incident a pedestrian had to ‘jump back’ on to the pavement to avoid the car.

Sharkey was later caught and cannabis was found in the car. He told police he was sorry and that he ‘just panicked.’

In mitigation Peter Du Feu, defending, described the incident as ‘madness.’

Sharkey was jailed for nine months, suspended for two years, and he must complete 80 hours of unpaid work and rehabilitation activity requirement days. He must also pay a victim surcharge and obey an 18-month driving ban.
