AN OXFORD comedian has been fundraising in an unusual way during lockdown for homelessness charity Shelter.

Dan Squire in early May decided to auction off his own – offering to undertake a terrible haircut. The more money raised, the worse the haircut would be.

In the three weeks from May 9, the campaign on fundraising website JustGiving raised £1,220 - enough for the 26-year-old to give himself a 'half and half', with the entire right-hand side of his head shaved clean.

The fundraiser was in the top five per cent of UK JustGiving campaigns in May, out of 41,137.

The comedian, who has been a performer with The Oxford Imps comedy troupe since 2017, broadcast the live haircut on Facebook on Monday and will keep the haircut for the entire month to continue raising money.

Explaining his reason for choosing Shelter on the JustGiving page he wrote: "Most of us have been very fortunate to have a home which we can isolate in for the last couple of months - but that's not the case for everyone.

"With a recession coming which will put more people out of work and potentially onto the streets, now is a particularly good time to support those in our communities who need it most."
