A CAR rally inspired by beloved 1960s film The Italian Job is coming to the UK for the first time in 30 years – and will set off from Oxford.

Dozens of petrolheads in vintage Minis and other retro cars will rev out of the Cowley BMW car plant on Friday, October 30.

They will then drive 200 miles to Yorkshire, completing challenges along the way, in this year's Italian Job Fundraising Rally.

Organisers of the charity challenge decided to bring it to the UK after celebrating their 30th anniversary last year, and chose Oxford's Mini plant as the perfect starting line.

Punters will pay £549 each to join the all-inclusive trip, with accommodation booked along the way, and profits will go to help children in poverty.

In Oxford, the organisers have promised a 'celebrity flag off' to see the drivers off, though they have not yet revealed the celebrity.

The motorists will then be challenged to complete tasks en route as they head towards the four-star Crowne Plaza Hotel in Harrogate, where they will stay for three days.

After some sight-seeing over the weekend, the drivers will then be asked to head back south in a five-hour convoy to another hotel in Windsor.

The annual fundraising event is organised by mother and son, Giulia and Freddie St George.

In its three-decade history, they say they have raised nearly £3 million for various good causes.

Last year's event raised £200k for children’s charity Buttle UK, which will be the designated charity once again this year.

Each adventurer is encouraged to raise money in advance of the trip through local fundraising activities and sponsorship of their car. Help and support for this is given by the organisers throughout.
