DELIVEROO has committed to give away 500,000 free meals to NHS staff across the UK as the Covid-19 outbreak worsens.

The food delivery service has teamed up with restaurant chains to offer free food for workers on the frontline of the pandemic.

The major company that operates in more than 200 cities across the UK has already secured donations of 350,000 meals, most of which have been offered by Pizza Hut.

Under the scheme food in bulk will be delivered to sites such as hospitals, primary care sites and field hospitals most in need.

Health secretary Matt Hancock said about the plans: "The nation needs the NHS like never before, and we must support every single colleague in the NHS.

"I am delighted that Deliveroo and partners are playing their part in this great national effort with half a million meals for the NHS."
