WINCHESTER's newest tradition returns this Shrove Tuesday, the pancake race, organised by Winchester Rotary with the cathedral, on February 25 from 12.30pm.
Around 40 teams will race in the Outer Close, representing businesses, charities, churches and other organisations.
A trophy will be awarded to the team which completes the distance in the fastest time. Teams are invited to choose their own costume to race in.
Fresh pancakes will be available and entertainment will be provided by musicians from Winchester Students Union Busking Society.
The teams, consisting of four runners, will race two teams at a time in a relay between 1-2pm. The course for each being 38 metres long with designated places where the runners must stop and toss their pancake...accidents will happen, laughter guaranteed.
All proceeds will be shared between Winchester Cathedral and Winchester Rotary. This year Winchester Rotary is supporting Winchester and District Young Carers.
Winchester Rotary wishes to thank IBM’s Hursley Laboratory for their generous technical support for this year’s Pancake Race.
