FLYING was the theme of the Didcot and district junior schools’ music festival in March 1987.
Two hundred and fifty youngsters, aged nine to 11, including an 80-strong orchestra, put on a programme of music and songs, with each piece reflecting some aspect of flying.
Nine schools – four from Didcot and five from neighbouring villages – took part in the concert at Didcot Civic Hall, at which the conductor was Olga Latham and the pianist, Mary Parfitt.
Some of the schools taking part had been doing a science project on flying, and there was an exhibition on the subject in the foyer of the civic hall.
