MORE THAN £600 has been raised to give the children of murdered Didcot man Darren MacCormick a bedroom makeover after they were scammed in a fake Facebook giveaway.

Mr MacCormick, who was affectionately known as Dizzy, was stabbed to death outside his home in Didcot in the early hours of January 9.

Mr MacCormick, who was affectionately known as Dizzy, was stabbed to death outside his home in Mendip Heights, in the early hours of January 9.

He left behind three children: youngsters Lula and Levi, and an adult son Kurt.

At the end of January, Lula and Levi were promised toys and gifts following an offer by an anonymous donor on the Spotted: Didcot Facebook group.

But the donations failed to arrive, leaving the children empty-handed.

The youngsters' plight prompted generous family friend Donna Cochrane, also from Mendip Heights, to take matters into her own hands.

She set up a Go Fund Me page on January 31 and through 13 donators has now raised £681 of a £500 target.

The money will be used to kit-out the children's bedrooms and give the rooms a fresh lick of paint.

Any leftover cash will be used to treat Mr MacCormick’s children to a day out or cinema trip in memory of their dad.

Mrs Cochrane wrote on the page: “As I’m sure many of you are aware, Lula, Levi and Kurt recently lost their dad in the most horrific way.

“There has been a huge response from the public to support family and friends.”

She went on: “Recently on the local Spotted: Didcot page, a stranger offered to do something kind for someone, and Darren’s children’s names were put forward, this since turned out not to happen and be fake.

“After speaking to the younger children’s mother, and wanting to do something to directly add some comfort to these young children’s lives, she mentioned to me that the children’s personal bedrooms could do with a revamp and a cosy up.

“I can only imagine how important it is right now to have some personal space with some extra comforts and some fresh decoration.

“Any extra raised will go towards all three of his children having a great day out in memory of their father. At a time like this memories are everything.”

This is the second fundraiser to have been set up after the murder investigation was launched in Mendip Heights.

Earlier this month his old colleague at a window fitting company set up another Go Fund Me page to help cover the costs of his funeral.

Earlier this month, one of Mr MacCormick's former colleagues at a window fitting company set up another Go Fund Me page to help cover the costs of his funeral.

Jodie Jefferson wanted to give his family ‘one less thing to worry about’.

She wrote on the page: “No parents expect to have to bury their child and Darren’s parents were no exception, therefore to try and make things a little easier for them I thought that we could all club together and help to raise funds towards Darren’s funeral.”
