OXFORD City Council is calling for applications to a £35,000 grant fund, which is designed to heal the community divides caused by Brexit.

The #WeAreOxford grant fund is for groups who want to put on activities and events that bring people from different backgrounds together.

Organisations can apply for between £500 and £5,000 to host sports competitions, cultural events, educational evenings or social get-togethers.

The money comes from central government funding and is being launched following Brexit for activity to strengthen communities and support migrants.

Those wanting to apply have until March 9 to make their applications.

Marie Tidball, Cabinet Member for Supporting Local Communities, said: "By bringing people together in community activities we aim to create a shared experience and help strengthen bonds across communities around what we have in common.

“The last three years has been difficult for everyone as the Brexit debate put so much national focus on our differences.

"Now we want to celebrate what we have in common, and build connections at a local level so that everyone feels part of Oxford."

The UK left the EU on January 31.

For some in Oxford, the divide between Leavers and Remainers continues, with Pro-EU groups already committing themselves to rejoining the trading bloc.

One Europhile at a meeting on the evening of Brexit said Remainers 'would become Rejoiners' as of 11pm.
