EMPLOYEES of 001 Cars prepared to set off on a two month fund raising marathon in July 1987.
Cab drivers and office staff at 001 Cars in Headington, Oxford, launched their efforts with their 60 mile walk to London.
They also held a sponsored slim in a bid to raise thousands of pounds for SSNAP – Support for the Sick, Newborn and their Parents.
Cabbies Tony Green and John Wheeler and radio controller Betty Webb planned to leave the John Radcliffe Hospital for a 60-mile walk to Guy’s Hospital.
All other drivers agreed to give a penny for every job they did during the eight weeks.
