A RISE in fees hold street parties in Oxford took a step closer to reality last night.

Oxford City Council's general purpose licensing committee met at the town hall last night to discuss draft licence fees for the new financial year, 2020/21.

These fees include the costs of closing off a street within the city to host an event.

While hosting a street event with less than 500 people present cost £100 in 2019/20, it could cost £105 in 2020.

Markets and street fairs cost £250 in 2019/20, but could also be set to rise to £255 next year.

Events with more than 500 people could be set to rise from £300 to £305, while non-commercial events would cost £16, up from £15.

Most other fees, including for licensing a taxi, would remain at the same price as in 2019/20.

The changes were agreed by the committee, but the full council will now have a final say over whether they go ahead.
