The Shadow Justice Secretary is holding a rally in Oxford ahead of the deputy leadership contest for the Labour Party.

Labour MP Richard Burgon, will visit Oxford to speak to Labour Party members and supporters in his bid to become the next Labour Deputy Leader.

Mr Burgon is the first of the deputy leadership candidates to visit Oxford.

His visit comes a week after Rebecca Long-Bailey’s visit to the packed audience at Blackbird Leys Community Centre in her bid to become the first female Labour Party Leader.

The Labour Party politician, Mr Burgon, has been serving as Shadow Secretary of State for justice and Shadow Lord Chancellor in the Shadow Cabinet of Jeremy Corbyn since 2016.

He has also served as Member of Parliament for Leeds East since 2015, and now he is running for deputy leader of the Labour Party.

He said: “Join me in Oxford to hear my vision for democratising the Labour Party and my plans to keep Labour on a socialist track by enshrining our commitment to public ownership in our party’s constitution.”

Huda Elmi from Labour’s National Executive Committee (NEC) will also be speaking at the rally in support of Mr Burgon for Labour Deputy Leader.

The rally is free and will be held on Wednesday February 5 from 7.30pm to 9pm at the Saint Clements Family Centre.
