STREET parties are set to cost more in Oxford next year, while the costs of taxi driving licenses are likely to remain steady.

Oxford City Council's general purpose licensing committee is set to meet at Oxford Town Hall tonight.

The committee was due to discuss the draft licence fees and charges for the new financial year, 2020/21

These fees include the costs of licensing a Hackney Carriage, which would remain at £400, the same price as in 2019/20.

A host of other vehicle licensing charges were also likely to stay the same.

But the costs of closing off a street within the city to host an event or party was set to increase.

While hosting a street event with less than 500 people present cost £100 in 2019/20, it could cost £105 in 2020.

Markets and street fairs cost £250 in 2019/20, but could also be set to rise to £255 next year.

Events with more than 500 people could be set to rise from £300 to £305, while non-commercial events would cost £16, up from £15.

The hefty fees for operating a sex shop or sex cinema within Oxford would remain mostly the same.

These licenses cost £2,508 to buy new or to renew.

The cost of transferring the ownership of a sex shop, or a change in how it operates would be likely to drop in the new financial year.

While this variation fee is currently set at £1,175, it could drop to only £449.

Oxford City Council has several committees which deal with licensing and gambling, which serve different purposes in overseeing the law.
