A TOWN council has declared a climate emergency but rejected calls to hold a Citizens Assembly in order to tackle it.
Last July Cherwell District Council joined Oxfordshire County Council and a host of other local authorities in recognising the impact and pace of climate change as well as committing to tackle it.

In a motion to Tuesday's Banbury Town Council, Labour councillor Sean Woodcock proposed that the town declare a climate emergency and to host a Citizens' Assembly.
The council agreed on declaring the climate emergency but not a Citizens' Assembly, with the Tories amending the motion to commit the council to hosting a joint meeting of local authorities.
Councillor Woodcock said:"Rather than being too downhearted, I am pleased that Labour have been at the forefront of getting all three tiers of local government to accept the climate emergency."
