The Henley constituency had four candidates standing to become MP with Conservative John Howell running for his fifth year winning a landslide victory.

Running this year for Henley was Zaid Marham for The Labour Party, Laura Coyle for Liberal Democrats, Jo Robb for The Green Party and for the Conservatives John Howell.

Mr Howell was first elected in MP in 2008 and then continued to win in 2010, 2015 and also in 2017 and now again in 2019.

When the election was called, Mr Howell said issues important to his constituents including health and social care, housing and infrastructure, education and climate change were being ‘drowned out’ by Brexit.

He said: “I shall be fighting an election on the widest range of topics and certainly not just on Brexit.”

Laura Coyle, Liberal Democrat candidate, has lived near Goring for eight years with her husband Ray and six-year-old son who attends the local school.

She previously worked as a Lib Dem councillor and campaigned for the homeless.

Ms Coyle campaigned against Brexit in 2016 and has since continued to back the remain campaign.

Labour candidate, Zaid Marham grew up in Oxfordshire and now lives in Oxford, he joined the Labour Party in 2015 when Corbyn became the leader.

Over the past 20 years his political activity has been the peace movement.

Green Party candidate, Jo Robb, has previously campaigned on climate change, fossil fuel divestment, preserving the Chilterns AONB and reforming planning law.

At the start of the night the Oxfordshire exit poll predicted a hold in all six seats, with none expected to swing to a different party.

In Henley that certainly was the case.
