A DANGEROUS knifeman stabbed a homeless man and left him in a coma just days

after being released from prison.

Arron Owston committed a series of violent acts in Brighton, including the stabbing, robbing a corner shop, stealing from a woman and battering a man with a bottle.

The 28-year-old, who has been in and out of prisons since the age of 15, was released from serving an eight-year sentence for grievous bodily harm in June.

Within days he went to Shiv News in St James’s Street and robbed the shopkeeper at knifepoint.

Three days later he stabbed Lukasz Sinkowski in the back in New Road, near Pavilion Gardens, after an argument.

Then the next day he clubbed Terry Willard over the head with a bottle, leaving the victim with a bleed on the brain.

Finally, after worming his way into Paula Roberts’ home, he repaid her kindness by stealing her mobile phone, chargers and tablet.

At Hove Crown Court Judge David Rennie said Owston, of no fixed address, was a danger to the public after committing so many violent offences.

He jailed Owston for a total of 15 years after finding he poses a high risk of committing similar violent crimes.

Rio Pahlavanpour, prosecuting, said Owston burst into Shiv News on June 12, demanding Amber Leaf tobacco.

Owston went around the counter and the shopkeeper saw a knife in his hand.

She said: “When he turned up at the till he said he wanted money, otherwise he would kill me.

“I was so scared when I saw the knife, I really thought he was going to hurt me.

“I was upset, I kept bursting into tears.”

Mr Pahlavanpour said the next incident, against Mr Sinkowski, was on June 15, where the two had squared up face to face.

After turning away, Owston grabbed a knife from the victim’s waistband and thrust it into his back.

Mr Sinkowski was taken to hospital and has faced months of surgery, infections and treatment.

He said it was a “horrible experience” as he had to replace colostomy bags up to eight times a day, facing the embarrassment of needing to empty them to go to the toilet.

“I almost died, I lost 12 kilos, I have been unable to work and support myself, but I am grateful that I survived,” he said.

Mr Pahlavanpour said Owston attacked Mr Willard the next day on June 16.

He was later taken in by Paula Roberts, who thought he had been kind.

She grew fearful of him, and realised one day that he had taken items from her home to sell for drugs.

Ms Roberts said: “I felt used, upset and let down. I believe he has a real coldness about him.

“He is not a nice person.”

Tayo Adebayo, defending, said Owston had spent most of his young adult life in prison, and had a tough upbringing and childhood trauma.

Judge Rennie said he would not wish Owston’s background on anyone, but jailed him for robbery, inflicting grievous bodily harm, inflicting actual bodily harm, and theft.
