ROAD closures will be in place while a council installs a speed bump near schools.

Oxford City Council will start work next week to improve safety on Rymers Lane in Florence Park, installing a 'raised junction table' at the junction with Littlehay Road and Cornwallis Road.

Work on the traffic calming measure is expected to take two weeks, and will also see new drainage and new kerbs installed, as well as 'tactile slabs' to help sight-impaired pedestrians.

The council said the work is being carried out 'to make the roads safer for residents and children attending the nearby schools.'

From Monday until Saturday, October 26, the junction of Cornwallis Road and Rymers Lane will be closed.

There will be three-way traffic lights to manage the traffic at the Littlehay Road and Rymers Lane junction.

From Monday, October 28 until Thursday, October 31, the junction of Littlehay Road and Rymers Lane will be closed, with traffic lights controlling the flow of traffic at the Cornwallis Road and Rymers Lane junction.

From November 1 the entire Rymers Lane, Littlehay Road, Cornwallis Road junction will be closed.

City councillor Nigel Chapman, cabinet member for safer communities, said: "We realise that roadworks of this nature will cause disruption for road users, but the benefits once the work is done will be plain to see.

"We have planned this work around the school holidays to minimise disruption and contacted all residents and schools in the area to make them aware of the work."

The junction is within walking distance to schools including St Gregory the Great Catholic School, and is also next to community hub Flo's the Place in the Park.
