THOUSANDS of motorcyclists are expected to ride through Oxfordshire in memory of fallen police officer Andrew Harper.

Details of the Ride of Respect have now been confirmed, including the date and location.

Organiser Sian Sloper said the ride will take place on Sunday, October 27, with participants meeting at RAF Benson before riding to Abingdon Airfield.

The exact route is yet to be confirmed but the first group of riders have been asked to arrive at RAF Benson between 9am and 11.45am to leave at midday.

Almost 9,000 people have liked the event's Facebook page but Ms Sloper said it is difficult to predict how many riders will turn up on the day.

She expects around 4,000 to take part.

The newlywed grew up in Wallingford and was based at Abingdon station, and was remembered by his wife Lissie as 'the kindest, loveliest, most selfless person you will ever meet.'

Riders are expected to come from across the whole of the UK including police forces from Wales, Ireland and Guernsey and members of the London fire brigade.

Ms Sloper said she never expected support to grow so rapidly.

She said: “People are coming from literally everywhere.

“The event has grown from something that I thought was going to be based in the Thames Valley but now it has definitely gone more national.”
