ONE person was taken to hospital following a crash that closed the A40 this morning.

The incident happened between Eynsham and Barnard Gate, near Oxford involving two vehicles.

South Central Ambulance Service were called at 11.06am and sent an ambulance to the scene, where one patient with minor injuries was taken to the John Radcliffe Hospital in Oxford for further treatment.

All lanes on the A40 have been re-opened.

The road westbound towards Witney was closed while eastbound towards Oxford was also closed in order for police to assist with recovery and release trapped traffic.

Police advised that traffic was unable to join the carriageway from Witney Road in either direction.

Oxfordshire County Council tweeted the crash alert, encouraging drivers to take alternative routes including the A4905 via Long Hanborough.

Stagecoach bus company tweeted that its S1 / S2 services are now back to normal.
