LIVE music, giant hay bales and a performing badger are among the attractions at an alternative village fete on Saturday.

Binsey Village Fete attracts hundreds of people to the riverside hamlet, between Oxford’s Botley Road and Port Meadow.

Now in its 12th year, the event is notable for the quality of its live entertainment, with bands booked by musician Olly Wills, who lives in the village.

Saturday’s line-up features Olly’s own band The Epstein, along with The Gees, London Graffiti, SkaBooDabarr and The Kirals.

Also on offer are a tea and cake tent, pig roast served by the team from The Perch pub and vegetarian and vegan food. There will be drinks from The Binsey Beer Tent and Gin Shack.

Other highlights include The Binsey Museum of Curiosities, Binsey Bike Club, Luddites Corner and a performance from the mysterious Binsey Badger he Binsey Badger - a storyteller who presents his lively poem of a fabled local black and white striped beast.

Children can play on giant hay bales and will be kept busy with an art tent, face painting and tractor rides.

The community-run fete supports local causes including Oxford Foodbank, West Oxford Primary School and the village church.

Olly says: “It’s a quirky afternoon of old fashioned family fun, so come and hang out on Binsey green and enjoy the last days of summer surrounded by friends and family.”
