POLICE have said a Bicester bar that wants to open for longer must pay for bouncers to keep it safe.

The Tropic Bar, in Pioneer Square, wants to sell alcohol until 1am from Monday to Thursday, until 1.30am on Friday and Saturday and until midnight on Sunday.

Currently it is open until midnight from Monday to Thursday, until 12.30am on Friday and Saturday and 11pm on Sunday.

But Thames Valley Police said the bar's owners have not done enough to show they will try to stop crime and disorder.

In papers that will be seen by Cherwell district councillors, a TVP employee said: "Due to the late hour that the premises is applying to be open until it is recommended that [it] should employ door staff to ensure [it] will be able to deal with incidents or disorder either from customers within the premises or from those who have left other premises and attempt to gain entry."

The force said there was trouble at the bar last October, when officers were called to 'remove a male who had pushed other customers and refused to leave'.

It continues: "Officers attended and were able to remove the male from the premises...The male eventually left the area at 1.21am, over an hour after the premises should have been closed."

Cherwell District Council's licensing committee will decide on the application next Friday.
