RECORD weather and 'emotional celebrations' brought the 55th Towersey Festival to a close.

Organisers of the folk festival in Thame Showground dubbed the bank holiday weekend event a huge success.

About 8,000 revellers enjoyed the festival fun with stand-out performances from soulful Dubliners Hothouse Flowers and 2-Tone legends The Selecter.

There was also an emotional celebration of the life of the late folk singer and Towersey Patron Roy Bailey who passed away in November. He was at the very first Towersey in 1965 and his afternoon shows were a feature of the festival for many years.

The festival also marked the official retirement of Towersey director Steve Heap who took over the reins in 1975.

He said Monday's tribute to Mr Bailey was 'something quite special' with barely a dry eye.

Towersey festival 2020 will run from August 28 to 31. Details towerseyfestival.com
