Bees have suddenly swarmed to Puzzle Square in Welshpool, opposite the new Brookes Cycles shop (formerly Iceland).
Staff from the shop kept doors closed, concerned the bees would enter the shop.
Environmental health at Powys County Council said that it stopped doing pest control around four years ago, and that a seperate provider would need to be used if the insects are to be removed.
The swarm has now calmed down a little, but it seems more bees are still arriving.
There are concerns that the bees could block the pathway into Puzzle Square, and that the bees could sting passers-by.
