A MAJOR vintage fashion fair took over Oxford Town Hall on Saturday.

The Worth the Weight event promised to bring 'seven tonnes of handpicked vintage stock for you to rummage through'.

This includes 'pick-and-mix men's and women's vintage clothing from the 1960s to the 1990s, including all of your favourite branded names'.

The event also had dedicated changing rooms for shoppers to try before they buy.

It was the latest in a series of vintage fashion fairs to come to the city, and comes at a time when the fashion industry is being challenged over single-use and short-lasting items.

Earlier this week, Cowley-based Oxfam announced it would be auctioning off a host of garments worn by stars at this year's Glastonbury Festival.

The charity said 'throwaway fashion' was putting increased pressure on the planet and on people.

According to Banbury-based anti-waste charity WRAP UK, £140 million worth of clothing goes into landfill each year in the UK, while unused apparel resting in wardrobes is worth about £30 billion.

At Saturday's Worth the Weight event, 'early bird' bidders are invited to buy a £3 ticket on the door between 11am and 12pm to get first refusal on the stock. In the afternoon ticket price will be reduced to £1.50. A kilo of clothes is priced at £15.
