A PLAN to extend an Oxford hotel has been pulled by its developers.

Jurys Inn Hotel, in Godstow Road, Wolvercote, had wanted to add another 42 bedrooms to the 240 it currently has.

But it withdrew the application on Wednesday.

In the original application submitted earlier this year, developers said the four-star hotel has a 'sprawling' estate of two or three storeys.

The new accommodation block would have been two storeys tall and would have had a link to an existing building.

The hotel is near the BP garage and the A40 in North Oxford.

It includes its accommodation blocks, conference facilities, a gym, spa, a swimming pool and other sub-stations and a plant room.

The hotel has stood on the site since the 1960s. It had been built on a large agricultural field.

Further expansions were built onto the hotel, which stands about four kilometres outside the city centre, in 1970s, 1980s, 1990s and 2000s.

The Wolvercote site is the only hotel Jurys Inn runs in Oxfordshire. The closest hotels to the county are in Swindon and Milton Keynes.

The Oxford branch underwent a £13m refurbishment recently and also boasts a Marco Pierre White Steakhouse and a bar and grill.

It also includes 20 meeting and event rooms which can host up to 350 people.

The site also has parking spaces for 250 visitors.
