THE plan to turn a listed building near Folly Bridge into a cafe has been given permission.

The Old Toll House, which is Grade II listed, will become a 'unique' eatery, offering visitors views of the bridge, council papers state.

City councillors had been asked to approve the application on Tuesday after five Labour councillors said they wanted it debated at the West Area planning committee.

The building, which originally served as a toll house, has been empty for about a year and is opposite the Head of the River pub, which is also Grade II listed.
