OXFORD City Council will discuss whether Plush nightclub can extend its opening times at a meeting tonight.

The club has now released a statement ahead of the decision being made.

The club on Frewin Court wants its sale of alcohol and all regulated entertainment to be extended by 30 minutes on Fridays, Saturdays and Bank Holiday Sundays meaning it would end at 3.30am the following day and close at 4am.

Instead of the nightclub having three door supervisors, it now wants to have two.

Thames Valley Police oppose their proposals as the gay club is situated within the council's city centre Special Saturation Policy area.

Thames Valley Police said: "[We] have concerns regarding the requested hours, and the effect this will have on SSP regarding crime and disorder within the overall policy area.

"Whilst the condition refers to a ‘minimum’ of two meaning more may be employed, there is no guarantee of deploying more. Only having a starting number of two rather than three door staff on duty presents operational issues for a venue of this class."

The club recently moved from Park End Street to its current location on Frewin Court which formerly housed the Purple Turtle nightclub, in January.

The city council's licensing committee will meet at Oxford Town Hall from 6pm.
