A FASHION chain with a branch in Oxford has fallen into administration, with 1,800 jobs at risk nationwide if a new owner is not found.

Select has become the latest retailer to fall victim to tough conditions on the high street this year, following Debenhams, Patisserie Valerie and Office Outlet.

The chain has a store in Templars Square shopping centre in Cowley, which is one of 169 branches across the UK, alongside a head office and warehouse facilities.

Business advisory firm Quantuma was appointed yesterday as administrators of Genus UK Ltd, which trades as Select.

The company trades as a value ladies’ fashion retailer, targeting 18-35-year-olds with up to 4,000 fashion products, and has an annual turnover of £77m.

It underwent a CVA process last year but Quantuma said 'prevailing high street conditions' meant the retailer had been unable to turn things around.

Joint administrators are assessing options to ensure its future, and no redundancies made as a result of the administration.

Andrew Andronikou, joint administrator at Quantuma, said: "We will continue to trade Select whilst we assess all options available to the business, with the aim of achieving the optimum outcome for all stakeholders.

"Options include a sale of the business, in addition to entering into discussions with those parties who have already expressed interest in acquiring the business.

"To support these efforts, a dataroom has been established and any further expressions of interest are invited. We will also be assessing CVA proposals which have been put forward by the directors."

This is the second time the company has gone into administration.
