NORTH Leigh joint manager Craig Dore says his side should be proud their battle against relegation has gone to the final day of the season.

The Millers entertain Evo-Stik South League Division 1 Central champions Peterborough Sports tomorrow with their fate in their own hands.

A win would ensure their safety, but they would still stay up if neither Aylesbury or Dunstable Town won their matches.

With Aylesbury withdrawing from the league at the end of the season, it is likely to be the Dunstable match that decides North Leigh’s fate.

But Dore says that whatever happens tomorrow, his side should hold their heads high.

“Five weeks ago, we were dead and buried, and didn’t have a prayer,” he said.

“It’s a miracle that we’ve got to where we are now.

“With Aylesbury dropping out of the league, even if we finished below them in 19th we would stay up, as long as Dunstable don’t win.

“But we will be giving it our best shot to get a win against Peterborough anyway, we don’t want to be relying on others.”

Roger James and Alfie Saunders are both unavailable, and although Andy Gunn (groin) is a doubt, Alfie Grant should return.

Dore said: “I’m so proud of what these boys have done. I think if we stay up, with our resources, it’s an even bigger achievement than Peterborough winning the league, because no-one gave us a hope.

“My lads have grown into men in recent weeks and have shown just what they are capable of. Let’s hope their efforts will be rewarded.”

Kidlington will also be looking to secure their safety when they host Corby Town.

A point would ensure they stay up, but even if they are beaten it would take an unlikely sequence of results to condemn them to a bottom two finish.

At the other end of the table, Didcot Town must beat AFC Dunstable and hope Sutton Coldfield lose to basement boys Dunstable if they are to finish in the play-off places.

The Railwaymen are without a win in seven league games, a source of much frustration to boss Andy Ballard.

“The draw on Monday against Sutton Coldfield means that it’s now totally out of our hands,” he said.

“All we can do is produce a good performance, win the game, and hope for the best.

“Whatever happens, it’s been a good season for the lads. They’ve worked extremely hard, and it’s just unfortunate that our poor run has come at the wrong time.”

Thame United must record a huge win at Cambridge City tomorrow and hope none of the four teams fighting for the final play-off place win.

Boss Mark West is philosophical over their chances, but praised his side for an excellent campaign.

“If you’d have told me that we’d be in with a shout going into the final week, I’d have taken that,” he said.

“We’ve not had the rub of the green lately, but we’ve done really well. We’ve got some really good players and we’re lucky that they come and play for us for what they get.

“We’ve had some ups and downs, but it’s been enjoyable.

“The pressure is off tomorrow, so I will make sure some of the lads who haven’t had much involvement get a game. They deserve that reward.”

In Premier Division Central, Banbury United entertain Hitchin Town in their final game.
