EDDIE Pepperell was left to rue a late bogey as he carded a level-par 71 in the first round of the RBC Heritage tournament in South Carolina.
The Frilford Heath member did not drop a shot on the front nine at the Harbour Town Golf Links course.
He reached the turn in a one-under-par 35, with a birdie at the par-five fifth.
However, two bogeys in three holes curtailed his progress.
Pepperell found water at the tenth, before failing to find the green with his second shot at the par-four 12th.
But the 28-year-old recovered well to move back to one under with birdies at the 14th and 17th.
However, he found the bunker at the last with his second shot and missed a six-foot putt for par.
