AN inquest into the deaths of three people killed after a horrific head-on crash on the M40 in October is starting this morning. 

A Subaru Forester towing a caravan was travelling the wrong way down the motorway when it smashed into two other cars near Tetsworth on Monday, October 15.

John Norton, 80, and Olive Howard, 87, both from High Wycombe, were killed, as well as the driver of a Ford Mondeo, Stuart Richards, 32, from Stockport.

The inquest is taking place at Oxford Coroner's Court. 

The Subaru, which ploughed into oncoming traffic between junctions 6 and 7, had been involved in another crash in High Wycombe five days before. 

It travelled in the fast lane for a number of minutes before crashing, leaving the busy M40 carriageway closed for a total of 14 hours.

Changes have since been made to the M40, after another driving was seen driving the wrong way up the motorway in February.
