A COFFEE shop in Oxford has made the top spot in a list of the fifty best coffee shops in England.
Voted for by readers of Big Seven, a travel magazine, Society Café on St Michael’s Street has been named as the number one spot for coffee-lovers.
The independent café opened its Oxford branch in March 2016 and also has branches in Bath and Bristol.
It offers speciality coffee and focuses on making great coffee sourced directly from the best coffee producing farms in the world in places such as Kenya and Nicaragua.

Society Café also has a passion for coffee roasting, making sure coffee beans are roasted by the best roasters in the world and is diligent in making sure the best flavours are extracted from the beans.
Adrian Campbell-Howard, founder of Society Café, said: “Coffee is a fruit, it starts its life off as a cherry. The bean is taken from that cherry and roasted. A bit like a BBQ and cooking a steak, roasters can choose how to roast that bean.
“If roasted lightly, you will retain the lovely natural coffee flavours which, if you are working with the best coffees in the world, you want to. You certainly don’t want to over roast them and kill all those amazing flavours.”
The list was compiled by Big Seven, which has a huge social media following with nearly half a million followers on most social media platforms.
Mr Campbell-Howard said he is proud to have been recognised as the best.

He said: “The top 50 highlight some of the best coffee shops in England and we're absolutely thrilled to be in the top spot and I think it's pretty exciting for Oxford too. It means even more to us to be voted by readers of Big Seven as opposed to the coffee industry as they are the ones who drink our coffee.
“We are delighted and it’s a huge nod to the team who work incredibly hard and are super passionate about what they do.”
The baristas at Society Café all work full-time and take the coffee that they make each day very seriously.
Mr Campbell Howard said the shop in Oxford has received great support and is becoming more of a destination than a quick coffee fix for commuters.
He said: "It's been really good here in Oxford and we would love to open a second site in the city. When the right spot comes, we'll take it."
