A MAN has informed The Oxford Mail of the name of the woman whose purse was dumped in a post box and found by an Oxford postman.

The man, who has asked not to be named, said his wife, who speaks Japanese, was able to translate the information on her ID.

The man said: "We just want to be good Samaritans and help."

Steven Gill, the postman who found the purse which has the woman's ID inside, tried to hand it into the police but was told to destroy it.

The postman says he now does not know what to do with it.

The couple have advised Mr Gill to send the purse to the Japanese Embassy.
