RESIDENTS are being invited to paint a new community mural in Barton that will cover a wall at its neighbourhood centre tomorrow.

Designed by artist Merlin Porter using ideas from Barton residents, it will cover the external wall of the neighbourhood centre's sports centre.

Mr Porter will work with the Barton Art Club to draw the design onto the wall. People of all ages and abilities are invited to take part and free refreshments and painting materials will be provided from 11am until 4pm.

The first 30 volunteers will also be able to get a £1 lunch at Eatwells Cafe.

Marie Tidball, executive board member for supporting local communities, said: “I’m really pleased to invite people who live and work in Barton to come and help paint the new community mural.

"I’d like to thank everyone who has contributed their time, efforts and ideas. It should be a fun day out for people of all ages and abilities, and there’s no need to bring anything as free refreshments and painting materials will be available."

Mr Porter said: "I am really impressed by the Barton community’s friendly and enthusiastic spirit. I can't wait to help them turn their ideas into a reality and celebrate Barton with this big mural.

"No art skill is required and you're welcome to just have a look and a chat if that is all you fancy."
