TRAIN chaos is set to wreak havoc on Albion’s big day out.

Lines between Three Bridges and Brighton will be closed on the weekend of April 6 and 7 due to planned major improvement work

The work means bus replacements will be in service as some 30,000 Brighton and Hove Albion fans make the trip to Wembley Stadium for the FA Cup semi-final clash with Manchester City.

Lines affected will stretch further into East Sussex as there will be no direct route between Three Bridges and Lewes.

Brighton fans have been left baffled by the news, as it means hordes of supporters will be cramming on to rail replacement buses to get to Three Bridges on the first leg of their journey.

Social media has been filled with Albion fans hoping the work will be postponed.

Twitter user Bobbie Lamden messaged Southern Rail saying: “Engineering works are planned on the Brighton line the weekend of the FA Cup Semi final.

“Please tell me this will be postponed otherwise getting 40,000 Seagulls fans to Wembley will be a nightmare.”

Southern Rail responded saying there were no plans to move the rail works.

The company said: “Engineering works are planned months in advance and are a big logistical undertaking.

“Rescheduling works requires other weekend works being moved to accommodate this or additional overnight works taking place.”

A statement from Govia Thameslink Railway said: “We are talking with the club and Network Rail about how we can enhance travel options for fans and will make detailed plans when the day and time of the match is confirmed.”

Train services between Brighton and London stations will be diverted via Littlehampton.

Services that run on coastal routes between Brighton and Eastbourne or Hastings will run, though there will be no direct services from these stations to London.

The Gatwick Express will run every 30 minutes between London Victoria and Gatwick Airport only.

Brighton and Hove Albion’s travel partner Seagulls Travel will also be offering coach journeys to Wembley for the match.

Brighton made it through to their first FA Cup semi-final since 1983 following a dramatic penalty shoot-out win over championship side Millwall.

The Seagulls had found themselves two goals down before late strikes from Jurgen Locadia and Solly March saw Chris Hughton’s side take the match to extra time.

They won the shootout after Lewis Dunk scored and Millwall’s Jake Cooper blazed over the bar.

The Albion will play Manchester City on Saturday April 6. The exact kick-off time is yet to be confirmed.
