SHOPPERS will be urged to ramp up support for the team at JACK FM as they swap radio shifts for riding this weekend.

Fundraisers from the radio station will be taking on an epic 100-mile static bike ride as part of its Oxford Mail OX5 Run training.

People heading out to the Westgate Centre on Saturday could spot ‘Team JACK’ taking on the challenge on the rooftop.

Riders hope to not only raise their fitness levels but also raise donations and sign-ups for the five-mile fundraiser on Sunday, March 24.

The OX5 Run, sponsored by Allen Associates, raises money for Oxford Children’s Hospital Charity and JACK FM’s 100-mile challenge will be added to the efforts.

One of the JACK FM fundraising team members Hamish Law, who will be taken on the OX5 for the second time, said: “We’re all really looking forward to the Team JACK 100 mile ride on Saturday at Westgate and helping raise more money for Oxford Hospitals Charity.

“It is also going to help with our training for The Oxford Mail OX5 Run.

“As a local radio station, and as residents of Oxfordshire, we feel it’s so important to support Oxford Hospitals Charity as much as possible.

“Personally my kids were both born at the John Radcliffe Hospital and have each had treatment there so it really feels like we’re giving something back.”

Shoppers are urged to get behind the team and support their efforts to drum up donations ahead of the OX5 event, which is just weeks away.

The OX5 Run will, once again, take competitors round the grounds of Blenheim Palace and has so far attracted more than 1,000 people up for the challenge.

Competitors can walk, jog or run the five-mile course and all funds raised will go towards supporting Oxford Children’s Hospital.

The race has raised more than £1million for the charity since starting and has funded vital support and equipment at the children’s hospital.

There is still time to sign up to take part in the event either talk to the JACK FM team tomorrow at the Westgate or go online to ox5run.co.uk.
